Nothing like a union to ruin an itinerary

Early start to today courtesy of the jet lag that kicked in at around 6:00. Based on that I thought “Let’s go to the markets at Rue Mouffetard”. Carolyn was somewhat less enthusiastic about that little trip so it was up to me to get myself there to take a look.

One thing I forgot to consider though is that while fruit and veg markets kick off early in Australia, the French are a lot more casual and the thing didn’t really start until 8:30-9:00. So all I got were a few pics of people setting up and a few bottles of wine amusingly enough. The lady in the store spoke good English so we had a good chat about French wine and she was a staunch Burgundy fan so I took her up on a few recommendations. Got to love it that you can buy wine in France before fruit & veg! In the end though I did get something that is a bit of a rarity in Australia at the moment – Bananas!

The rest of the day was spent walking the Tuilleries and going around the city on the tour bus. We ended up at Sacre Cour which is quite impressive and has great views across Paris.

We were booked to go out to dinner with some friends at Georges at the famous Pompidou building but thanks to a strike we were left with dinner at a more traditional Paris Bistro, food was good, but no where near as fancy as Georges would have been. It was a case of we were all dressed up with no where to go!
